Summer Listening 2012: Butch Walker and the Black Widows – The Spade

A few months back I bought Butch Walker and the Black Widows‘ album The Spade and fell in love with it. It was a blind buy, I’d seen one video online that summed up everything I knew. It was a great decision because the album is phenomenal. It’s quickly become one of my favorite albums and I can’t say enough good things about it. The song Synthesizers was the catalyst though, specifically the video.

The video is fun and upbeat, as is the song. It’s basically the tale of a man, a man at a bar. But this is no ordinary man… this is David Wooderson.

One of my favorite characters in Dazed and Confused, the role of Wooderson is once again perfected by Matthew McConaughey.  As soon as I finished watching the video I ran to my computer and downloaded the album. I was really impressed by the album. It had a great selection of songs, but the thing that really stuck out to me was the great, consistent energy through the whole thing.  Besides Synthesizers my other favorites are Summer of ’89 and Dublin Crow.

I really like listening to this album in the car, windows down. It’s been in constant competition for top summer album for me this year. Check out the video below.
